David Lewis & Mary

 

This line was considered as a possible ancestral line for the Planter John Family.  After more research I feel that information on this line is not as strong as that of Zachary Lewis.  This decision is also related to autosomal DNA results.

OWEN3 LEWIS  (JOHN2, DAVID1 LEWIS) born 1683 in Warwick Co, Va.  He married (1) ELIZABETH in Virginia.  She died November 04, 1716, in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, VA.  He married (2) ELIZABETH.  She died March 27, 1719, in St Peter's Parish, New Kent Co, Virginia. Children of OWEN LEWIS and ELIZABETH are:

Mares to my wife and sons.  Sons not to divide estate until age 21.  Executors:  Wife and friend John Knapton.  Wit.: James Turner, Richard center (R), Edmund Watts.  Sighed DAVID (U) LEWIS.  Recorded 10 Nov. 1670.

David Lewis pats. 217 acs. N. side dams parting York & Warwick Cos., includes 99 acs. purchased by his father, DAVID LEWIS.  Adj. Owen Davis. 20 Apr. 1685. (Nugent, C. & P. II., p. 288)  The name Owen enters the Lewis family through DAVID LEWIS's son John and there is some thought that he might have been married to a daughter of Owen Davis.

Bell, op. cit., p. 125.)  Note:  According to Tyler's Quarterly, Vol. 22, p. 167 JOHN LEWIS married Jane Mackintosh, dau. of Enos and Elizabeth Mackintosh of Charles Parish, York Co. and had one son.  After the death of JOHN, she married a Nobling, poss. John Nobling, Jr. listed on the 1704 Quit Rent list of King and Queen Co., Va.

1691:  JOHN LEWIS and Edward Mosse owned lot 33 on a town plat in York Co. surveyed by Col. Lawrence Smith and recorded Sept. 1691.  Owen Davis owned lot 13. (York Co., Va. Information from Robert J. C. K. Lewis

Owen Lewis was born in Warwick Co ca 1683.  He was the son of JOHN LEWIS, b 1663 in York Co who had moved to Warwick Co from York Co This JOHN was the son of David Lewis Sr, of York Co, who had come to VA by 1638 and died in 1669.

JOHN Sr had two sons. Owen b ca 1683, probably by a 1st wife who may have been a daughter of a neighbor, Owen Davis.   JOHN Sr's !st wife died and he remarried to Jane, daughter of Enos and Elizabeth Macintosh of York Co and had John Jr b  1688.  JOHN Sr died shortly after this, and Jane remarried to John Nobling.

Warwick Records: Court 7 Jan 1713: p.233 "Thos Hansford purchased of John Lewis, son of JOHN LEWIS dec'd all the lands etc devised by sd dec' unto his sd son John, and Jane, the wife of John Noblin, late the relic of the sd dec'd being still living and having her right of dower in the premises, prays that she might have her third right of dower assigned to her by the court. Granted p. 265, 16 Sep 1685 Deposition by John Lewis, age 26 (Re Noncupative Will of Richard Riddlehurst.
