Jeremiah Swayne's wife Mary Smith is often reported incorrectly as the daughter, rather than the granddaughter, of Francis Smith.

JOHN SMITH Smith  remained in charge of the Ferry and its farm when he inherited it after his father's death. He was freeman 22 May 1639, a selectman most of the time from 1650 to 1664, and was a Lieutenant. JOHN and CATHERINE were members of Reading's first church in 1648. Their children as given here are from Wyman [1897], who identifies the wife of Jeremiah Swayne as their daughter Mary, not a sister of John.
