Monroe County, Mississippi 12-31-1842

Joseph L. Gibson signed the marriage bond for John P. Gibson & Margaret Williams. Some Gibson researchers believe that this indicates that JOSEPH GIBSON was Joseph "L" since his son Joseph L. Gibson would only have been 15 years old at this time (age based on the 1850 Census). Dianne Blankenstein believes this to be incorrect. The birth date for son Joseph L. Gibson has been recorded in articles as 1816 thus making him 25 at the time of the marriage bond. JOSEPH GIBSON had only 3 sons & 1820 Census shows all 3 had been born and were under 10 at that time - this also supports the 1816 birth date. The age of wife LYDIA was 73 in the 1850 Census (earlier census records support this age for her) & it is unlikely that she had a son at the age of 49 (if Joe L. was born in 1826) - it is more likely the age 25 on the 1850 Census for Joseph L. Gibson is incorrect & should have been 35 instead.
