BARBER -------- Family tradition is told that JOSIAH & MARTHA's daughter Joannah was suppose to marry a very wealthy man, but on her wedding night she ran off to marry Robert Roebuck. Her father made her sister marry the wealthy man. JOSIAH never approved of Robert and Robert was very bitter about the fact that JOSIAH did not like him. Some years later JOSIAH disinherited them. There were ten children, two by the first marriage and the rest by Addie Barfield. 8. Midosa Barber (female, born 1850, Butts County, Georgia. Adaline E. Watkins Smith, second wife of JOSIAH W. BARBER, was the daughter of J. W. and Margaret _____ Watkins. Adaline was listed as age 37 on the 1850 Federal census of Butts County, Georgia, born in North Carolina. Household No. 581, pages 372 and 372. According to information contained in Old Records of Estates and Administrations of Benton (Now Calhoun) County, Alabama, James W. Watkins apparently died in 1864 and on December 17, 1868 the following list of heirs and distributes was filed by G. B. Douthit and J. P. Watkins, administrators of the estate of J. W. Watkins, deceased, with their account for final settlement: ...2. Elizabeth A., wife of JOSIAH W. BARBER, Gilmore P. O., Upshire Co., Texas (Adaline E.?)... JOSIAH and wife, Adaline were in Cass County, Texas before 1860/61 when their fourth child, George Barber was born. From there they moved to Gilmer, Texas and they are on the 1860 Census of Upshire County, Texas. (There are errors in the above paragraph. JOSIAH & Adaline's 4th child was Midosa. George Barber was from JOSIAH's 1st marriage - per Dianne Blankenstein.) The second son of Matthew Barber and Joannah Johnson Barber: I. JOSIAH WOOD BARBER, born 1808, Oglethorpe County, Georgia. He 1st married MARTHA PATRICK, 1st June 1828, Butts County, Georgia. Death date of MARTHA PATRICK is unknown in 1982. She died before 1829 when JOSIAH W. BARBER md: 2nd to Adaline Smith nee Watkins. Children by 1st marriage: 1. Matthew "C" or "T" Barber, born 1829; married Elizabeth Jan Sheppard 25 April 1849, Butts County, Georgia. 2. George W. Barber, the second child of JOSIAH WOOD BARBER and MARTHA PATRICK BARBER, was born in Butts County, Georgia ca 1834 and died in 1863; Van Buren, Arkansas, buried Fairview Cemetery, Lot #103 in Van Buren. George married Nancy A. McMichael 5 March 1857 in Cass County, Texas by J. B. Black, Minister. Nancy was born 27 May 1837, Butts County, Georgia and died 19 December 1907, age 70 years and is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Marietta, Cass County, Texas. (see above - different) 3. Barber his wife of said J. W. BARBER parties J. W. Barber Jr of the first part, in consideration of the sum of($105.00) one hundred and five dollars to us in hand paid by J. W. Barber, Jr. the receipt whereof we hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold and do hereby grant, bargain, sell alien, convey and confirm unto the said J. W. Barber Jr. of the County of Hill and State of Texas party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever, the following tract or parcel of land lying and situated in Hill County State of Texas on the east side of the Aquilla Creek, and a part of the John Rains survey and described as follows towit: Fifteen acres of the North end of a tract of (45 ¼) forty five and ¼ acres deeded by W. G. Wadley and wife to J. W. Barber Sr. by deed dated November 16th 1876. The division line cutting of the said fifteen acres to run east and west from the east line of said 45 ¼ acre tract t the west line of said tract. To have and to hold, all and singular the above described and conveyed premises and property with all the rights; privileges, hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining unto the said J. W. Barber Jr. party of the second part his heirs or assigns forever and we the said parties of the first part, do hereby bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators unto the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns that we are well seized of all and singular the said property and premises that we have good right and lawful authority to make this sale and conveyance of the same that said property and premises are free and clear of all and every encumbrances and that unto the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns we do and our heirs, executors and administrators will forever warrant and defend the same against all adverse lawful claim or claims whatsoever.
