I, THOMAS PETERSON of Edgefield, South Carolina, being well stricken in years and infirm in body, yet perfect in mind and memory do make and ordain and declare this instrument which is my last will and testament. I will to my beloved son, William Peterson, sixty-five acres of land joining John Henson and Stark's land. The balance of my lands I will to my beloved sons, viz. Thomas Peterson and James Peterson, to divide as they see proper. I also will to my beloved Grandson, Milton Perkins, one grey horse colt and one three year old heifer with calf. I also will Elizabeth Perkins one wheel and cards, also one wheel card and loom and reel to Cassandra Perkins. I also will all the rest of my property such as household and kitchen furniture and stock of all kind to be sold and equally divided amongst my children. Also my negro girl named Lucy to be sold & divided. I also wish Milton Perkins to have the half of the cotton and corn that himself and Lucy can raise on the land the present year, the balance to be sold and divided equally. I do appoint my sons, David and James Peterson executors of this my last will in witness whereof. THOMAS PETERSON was my great, great grandfather. He married ABIGAIL RICHARDSON - September 12, 1776 (His will probated Edgefield County -- also mentioned in 1790 Census as living in Ninety Six District - both on paper). I think ABIGAIL RICHARDSON's father was John Richardson. Hardin Peterson had the THOMAS PETERSON family bible in his possession in 1963 & sent the same names & dates that Mrs. Bowler sent. In excerpts from a book - title unknown - Chapter XIII THE PETERSON FAMILY p. 161-3 THOMAS PETERSON. The first Peterson in our ancestry of whom I have records begins with THOMAS PETERSON in the mid 1700's. His exact birth date is unknown, but he was married on Sept. 12, 1776 to ABIGAIL RICHARDSON, daughter of John Richardson. They were married in South Carolina, and apparently lived there throughout their lifetimes, mostly in the Edgefield District. They became parents of eleven known children. THOMAS died in March, 1827. His will, dated March 1, 1827 was probated on March 21 the same year in Edgefield, S. C., follows: WILL: ...see above... The children of THOMAS and ABIGAIL PETERSON: 1. Naomi Peterson - born Feb 2, 1788; md. (st) Daniel Goggans, 2nd) John Glenn. 2. William Peterson - born April 11, 1780; died Oct. 22, 1866. Married Nancy Mangum. 3. David Thomas Peterson - born May 15, 1782; died April 7, 1827. Married Mary "Polly" Turner. David was a Baptist Minister, preached at Sardis Church. 4. Thomas Peterson - born March 1, 1784; m 3 Nov 1817 Susannah Shaddock. 5. Elizabeth Peterson - born July 2, 1786; md. Aug. 4, 1801 to Jerry Perkins. (**wrong - Jerry Goggans) 6. Cassandra Peterson - born May 13, 1788; died Nov. 11, 1866. Married James Perkins. (**wrong - James Goggans) 7. Mary Peterson - born June 2, 1790 8. John Peterson - born July 15, 1792. Married Charlotte Richardson. 9. Barzilla Peterson - born Sept. 10, 1794. Married Charlotte Strother. 10. James Foy Peterson - born Oct 21, 1796; died June 10, 1881. Married Nov 24, 1822 to Rebecca Williamson. James was the second son to become a Baptist Minister; he pastored the Red Bank Church for 42 years. 11. Abigail Peterson - born Oct 3, 1798. Married _____Burnett. ---------- 9th Generation descendent Vera Mae Baker Holder joined the DAR in 1992 through her Revolutionary Ancestor THOMAS PETERSON. Her application states that THOMAS PETERSON resided at Camden District, South Carolina during the American Revolution and that while acting in the capacity of patriotic service supplied 200 pounds of flour to Militia in 1779.
