Benjamin Roebuck, Spartanburg of 96 District, South Carolina 1 Oct. 1786, "Sworn to " 29 Dec. 1788 Burrell Bobo signs a receipt for GEORGE ROEBUCK...20 Feb 1787, Spencer Bobo signs a receipt for the interest due to GEORGE ROEBUCK;...Spencer Bobo assigns the interest to John Cook and this was witnessed by John Gabble and by Jo. McDowell;...27 March 1787, Spencer Bobo uses the indent to buy 955a of land from John Cook...(Did not state whether bought land for Spencer Bobo or for GEORGE ROEBUCK.)

30. Benjamin Roebuck, Sr., (should be George Roebuck) was married in 1754 in Orange Co., Virginia, and came as one of the first settlers of Spartanburg-Union area. Benjamin Roebuck, Sr., was taken prisoner by the British at Camden and died soon after of small pox in the Camden Prison Gaol...Three of this known children were: Lt. Col. Benjamin Roebuck born 1755 and died 1788 of the wounds he received in battle during the Revolution...left no issue...GEORGE ROEBUCK, was son and also a soldier in the Revolution #29...Elizabeth Roebuck who married Burrell Bobo...This taken from a sketch of Roebuck Family in Spartanburg Annals...from same sketch.

JANUARY 1990 ISSUE

17 Nov 1791 Sampson Bobo purchased in Spartanburg County from GEORGE ROEBUCK "for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred pounds Sterling money...all that plantation and tract of Land containing two hundred acres Surveyed for David Hendrix the twenty fourth of Novr on thousand seven Hundred and sixty seven in Craven County a branch of Tyger River called Jamesy creek: Deed witnessed by Burrell Bobo. (ROEBUCK had purchased this same tract from Nicholas Holley for two hundred pounds sterling on 20 Oct 1791.)

22 Oct 1818 "Chaney Bobo exr. of Sally Bobo decd came forward with the advancements to the legatees of Sampson Bobo Senr...to Wm Wilder, GEORGE ROBUCK, Spencer Bobo, Sampson Bobo Jr., Absalom Bobo Senr, Chaney Bobo, Matthew Patton, Barram Bobo, Absalom Junr., Anthony Foster, Hiram Bobo, there being fourteen legatees...31st October 1818" (Holcomb, p. 77.)

Verified by the National Archives, Reference Nos. R8917, 59467 - GEORGE ROEBUCK, II, enlisted in 1775 in Henry Dixon's Company, Regiment of Col. Nash, First Carolina, where he served 18 mos, J. D. Bailey's Section 7.

"Heroes of the American Revolution", stated he next served in the Spartanburg District under Capt. Prince and Col. Pickens for 6 months; under Capt. Wm. Smith and Col. Hammond for 5 months; under Capt. Wofford and Major Ford in S.C. Troops for 3 months. he was at Galphin's and Siege of Ninety-Six; then served under his brother Col. Benjamin Roebuck for 10 months. The U.S. Bureau of Pensions issued Certificate 12-122 to GEORGE ROEBUCK dated 7, 1832, paid at South Carolina Agency. His rank was not shown in the above, but from other data it was believed he was a Captain.

According to "Carl Mays Notebook," Capt. GEORGE ROEBUCK, II, his brother Capt. John Roebuck, and their father Capt. George Roebuck, all served under their brother Col. Benjamin Roebuck, I, during the Revolutionary war. Capt. GEORGE ROEBUCK, II, was still living in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, as a Revolutionary pensioner as late as June 1, 1840. File of GEORGE ROEBUCK for his service under Col. Benjamin Roebuck, Spartanburg 96 District, S. C.

1 Oct. 1786, Sworn to 29 Dec. 1788 - Burrell Bobo signed a receipt for GEORGE ROEBUCK.

29 Feb. 1787 - Spencer Bobo signed a receipt for the interest due to GEORGE ROEBUCK.

Spencer Bobo assigned the interest to John Cook and this was witnessed by John Gambel and by Jo McDowell. 27 March 1787 Spencer Bobo used the indent to buy 955 acres of land from John Cook. (Did not state whether he bought land for Spencer Bobo or GEORGE ROEBUCK.)

July 10th 1797 my wife heirs of law of all the Real Estate of our late Brother Col. Benjamin Roebuck of Spartanburgh County & State aforesaid Deceased for and in consideration of one Hundred pounds Sterling money to us in hand paid by Sampson Bobo of Spartanburgh County aforesaid have bargained sold, aliened, released, conveyed and confirmed & by these presents, doth grant bargain sell alien release convey & confirm unto the said Sampson Bobo, his heirs and assigns forever all these two plantations tracts or parcels of Land, together with Every appurtenance thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining late the property of the said Col. Benjamin Roebuck Decd which the said Col. Benjamin Roebuck purchased of Isaac Hendrix, Situate lying and being in Spartanburgh County aforesaid, on two mile creek the waters of Enoree a branch of Broad River Vizt one tract containing one Hundred acres, granted December 23rd 1771 by his Esq Ld Chf G. dollars to him in hand paid by Burrell Bobo of the said state and District have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell and release unto the said Burrell Bobo all that tract of land lying on Enorie River Northward bounded by said Boboes land and the river nearly all round containing one hundred acres be the same more or less. Together with all and singular the rights members hereditaments and appurtenances to the said premises or in any wise incident or appertaining to have and to hold all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the said Burrell Bobo his heirs and assigns forever. ROBUCK of the one part of the State and District aforesaid and Isham Foster Sheriff of the other part witnesseth that whereas the said GEORGE ROBUCK by his notes of hand on bonds duly executed bearing even date with these presents stand bounded unto the said Isham Foster Sheriff as aforesaid and to his successors in office in the sum of eighty dollars twelve cents and five miles the first note or bond for the sum of forty dollars and sixty cents payable within twelve months from these presents doth the other note or bond for the sum of forty dollars and sixty cents payable Two years from these presents And now this Indenture withnesseth that the said GEORGE ROBUCK for and in consideration of the said Debt or sum of Eighty dollars twelve cents and five miles and for the better securing the payment of the same to the said Isham Foster Sheriff as aforesaid and his successors in office according to the tenor and effect of said notes or bonds have granted bargained sold and released and by these presents do grant bargain sell and release unto the said Isham Foster or his successors in office two tracts plantations or parcels of land lying and situate in the District aforesaid on Jamie's Creek and on to a off Jamies Creek one tract beginning on a post oak running thence N 50 & 26 chains 18 links to a hickory thence S 56 chains 84 links to a stake thence S 72 W 16 50 to a Stake thence N 30 W to the beginning corner and the other tract of Sixty acres more or less adjoining lands John Caven Kings & ROBUCKS lands the said tract of land being also sold by the said Isham Foster Sheriff as aforesaid in pursuance of an order of Court of Spartanburgh District as the property of Sampson Bobo Deed for their benefit of the heirs and legatees of said Deed together with all and Singular the rights members hereditaments and appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in any wise incident or appertaining to have and to hold all and Singular the premises before mentioned unto the said Isham Foster Sheriff aforesaid and his successors in office forever against my self my heirs and against all and other person or persons claiming the same or any part thereof under by or through me provided always never the less and it is the true intent and meaning of the parties to these presents and is hereby agreed and concluded upon that if the said GEORGE ROBUCK his heirs Executors Administrators or assigns do and shall will and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Isham Foster Sheriff as aforesaid or his successors in office the said sum of Eighty dollars twelve cents and five mills at the terms and according to the times mentioned and contained in the said notes or bonds then and in that case these presents indenture and the grant and release herein made and every herein contained And also the said recited bonds or notes shall cease determine and be absolutely void null and of no effect. I have to advise you, that from the papers in the pension claim, S0467, it appears that GEORGE ROBUCK was born in Orange County Virginia, March 15, 1757.

While living in Orange County, North Carolina, he enlistedthis regt in the fall of 1775, in Captain Henry Dixon'swas not Company, Col Nash, First North Carolina Regiment.raised until He was in the battle of More's Bridge and the fall Sullivan's Island, where he was wounded in the leg.We ?

He served eighteen months.

regts as After this he moved to Spartanburgh District, early as South Carolina, where he enlisted and served six May 75 months under Captain Prince and Colonel Pickens, five months under Captain William Smith and Colonel? and three months under Captain Wofford and Major Ford in the South Carolina Troops. He was in the engagement at Galphins and at the siege of Ninety Six. Dates of these services not stated.

In 1781, he was commissioned Captain and served about ten months, under his brother Colonel Robuck in the South Carolina Troops. (First name of brother not stated.) Benjamin

He was allowed pension on his application executed February 15, 1819, while living in Spartanburgh District, South Carolina. He died may 7, 1848 (from A.B.)

The names of his parents are not on record, nor is it stated whether he was married.

The Revolutionary War records of this bureau fail to afore information in regard to any Benjamin Robuck, or Roebuck.

Spartanburgh District To Win

on this 29th day of September 1832 personally appeared in open court before Jno B. Oncalle Judge of the court of common pleas etc now sitting GEORGE ROBUCK a resident of the district who was born on the 15th day of March 1757 in Orange County Virginia and is now age 75 years & 6 Months being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath say make the forgoing declaration in order to obtain the benefits of the act of ? passed June 7 1832 that he entered the service of the United States as an enlisted soldier in May 1775 under Capt Dickson Liut Leickson and Col Nash of the first regiment of N. C. Line in Orange County NC he joined head quarters at Wilmington N. C. & had an engagement with the enemy at Mr. Moor's Bridge on Black River near that place he marched from that place by Georgetown to Charleston So. C. where he was in the battle at Sullivans Island under the command he thinks of Genl Lee he received a wound in the leg by a buck shot at this place he marched back to Wilmington and back again to Charleston, was regularly discharged at Hardral's point after a service of 18 months his discharge was sent to the house of his father which was set on fire by the tories in the Revolutionary war. He incurred a pension for one or two years under the act of 1818 after which he was chopped from the pension list. After he was discharged from the Regular service he removed to Spartanburgh S. C. and volunteered in a campaign against the Cherokee Indians under Capt Prince, Col Pickins and Majr Davidson. He does not distinctly recollect the names of the other officers in joined head quarters at Sonica Fort on Sonica River in the upper part of South Carolina where he Remained skirmishing with the Indians in that neighborhood for six months when he was dismissed. He again volunteered in a campaign against the Creek Indians under Capt Wm Smith, Col. Hammond & Genl Williamson Joined head quarters at White Hall near Augusta they marched through the State of Georgia & crossed the ? & had a regiment with the Indians at Golphins, Cowpens, and Maj. Ross who fell in the engagement. He returned to White Hall & was dismissed after a tour of 5 months. He again volunteered under Capt. Wofford & Majr. Ford & was stationed at Cambridge at the siege of Ninety six under Genl Graves and was dismissed after a service of 3 months.

In 1782 he received the commission of Capt from signed by Col Thomas and joined the army at Orangburgh with Maj. John Ford & Col. Robuck to guard some prisoners who were stationed at that place he served for about four months and returned home. He thinks he returned his commission after peace was made to his commanding officer. He has no documentary orders of his services as a volunteer he was resided in Spartanburgh District ever since the Revolutionary war. He refers to the Revd Nathan Langston, Wm. Wilder to prove his service and his character for accuracy. He hereby relinquishes any claims whatever to any ? or annuity except the present dictates that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency in any state
