Information from Aileen Dozier Blankenstein, gr-gr-granddaughter of NOEL TURNER, as told to her by her ancestors. NOEL TURNER is best known as a soldier of the Revolutionary War. One night while his regiment camped on the land of another Turner, he met Mr. Turner's daughter, SARAH. NOEL ask SARAH to wait and marry him. After the war was over, he returned and they were married. They moved to Mobile, Alabama, where they are both buried. In Mobile a monument has been erected to his memory. The following quotation is from a newspaper clipping about the monument: "Next Sunday, March 29, (1914) at Shady Grove cemetery the Mobile Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will unveil a monument and a tablet to the respectful memory of the revolutionary soldier and patriot, NOEL TURNER. This event is the first of its kind in the history of the Mobile Chapter and the revolutionary soldiers' grave is the first ever marked by a DAR Monument in southern Alabama. The chapter plans to distinguish the date with fitting ceremonies." The bible used in this dedication was purchased by NOEL TURNER in London, England, some time before the revolution. --------- Shady Grove Cemetery Tombstones Inscriptions - Mobile, Alabama NOEL TURNER SARAH TURNER Born in England Born in North Carolina May 11, 1764 Feb 2, 1767 Died Jan 21, 1837 Died Sept 18, 1858
