Joshua Gotcher & Mary Malone

Information on Robbie Giles old Gotcher home page showed WILLIAM GOTCHER born before 1770 & MARY born about 1767 in Virginia. It shows they married before 1787 & were the parents of James Gotcher who married Mary Nancy Arlege. The reference given is A History of the James Gotcher Family by Emison.  The descendants of James Gotcher believe this is incorrect.

--------

Information Pat Norton found in her aunt’s papers said "William Gotcher of 1797. He was a doctor and lived in Tennessee and also had a son born in Tennessee. His wife was Mary Ann Box and she was a beautiful woman and had light curly hair and blue eyes." The page also showed that William’s brother was James who was killed by the Indians in Lee County Texas in 1837. It showed their parents to be ________ GOTCHER (1770) m. ___________ MALONE. And says her father was a Dr.

[Based on recent DNA testing linking this family to the Henry Goucher family and based on the documented children of Henry Goucher Dianne Blankenstein believes that it is possible (not proven) that the Gotcher that married Malone was the son of Henry - Joshua Gotcher.]

------

In papers from a Curb descendant given to Viola Gotcher Jacks - William Gotcher had brother James who was killed by Indians.  James's son Riley went back to live with the Indians after he was rescued.  When he later left them he went to live with Joshua Newton Gotcher for Awhile.

[That would also place James Gotcher as descended from this familly.]

------

Between the years 1804 and 1812 he was living in Franklin Co., Georgia . [History of Franklin county Georgia page 94]  The History of Franklin County source lists the 1805 land lottery in Georgia.  Joshua and HENRY SR. were allowed two draws but did not draw winners.  They were at least 21 years of age, had a wife and/or children, and had resided in Georgia for at least one year.
