Alfred Thomas Bryant & Alice Elizabeth Goggans

THE CHANDLER AREA IT'S HISTORY AND PEOPLE 1880-1980

Dr. ALFRED THOMAS BRYANT (1858-1908) was born in Coosa County, Alabama, and was married to Miss ALICE ELIZABETH GOGGANS (1857-1900) on December 12, 1878.

Dr. and Mrs. BRYANT moved to Chandler, Texas, around 1894.      Jim Bryant went to school in Chandler, then went to Baylor awhile. ALICE got some "cotton" money to help send him to college. While there he had headaches and his eyes hurt him; he dropped out. Jim helped Dr. BRYANT a lot. They kept a few stock. They also had cotton and other crops. Jim and a Negro spent most of the time doing that - taking care of cotton and corn crops. The Negro was Arch Jackson.

Dr. BRYANT went to see his niece Vera when she was very ill. When he returned home, he was thrown from the train and broke his right leg. He sued the train and got some money. He walked on a crutch for a long time. Vera's illness lasted long enough for him to make a second visit and when he returned home he had to cross a short foot bridge. In crossing, his crutch slipped into a crack, and he fell again, breaking the same leg. He was a on the 12th day of Decr A. D. 1878.
