Richbourg Line in FRANCE
|
Our French ancestors in France did not use the name Richbourg, but went by Phillippe. See documentation below on the family in France. Descendants of Claude Philippe Generation No. 1 In France CLAUDE1 PHILIPPE was born in Saone-et-Lorie Parish, France. He married JEANNE NICHOLAS January 20, 1663/64 in Saône-et-Loire, Bourgogne, France, daughter of TOUSSAINT NICHALLE and ADRIENNE CORNIN. She was born November 02, 1644 in France. Children of CLAUDE PHILIPPE and JEANNE NICHOLAS are:
Proof of name as Claude Philippe in France
Documentation on Phillippe Ancestors Searching for Claude Philippe in France. I believe the below records show Claude Philippe de Richebourg and his parents and a sibling. The records are kept in Saone-et-Loire, Parish, France. Family Search states that the events happened in Le Fay, Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France. I do not read French and Bruno Meline who lives in Paris called to my attention that there is another Le Fay and that the below information was misread by the individuals making the translation of these records. These are the original prints of the records from Family Search. Explanation as to why I believe this is my ancestor will be shown below. The originals as seen on line at Family Search. Their son, who I believe is my direct immigrant ancestor, is shown here at the incorrectly translated LE FAY in the Family Search records: Below is the original baptismal record for Claude Philippe – He was baptized 1678. Note the stamp at the top of the page shows La Feville for the location of the church at that time.
Baptism 31 May 1682 Father:Claude Philippes Mother:Jeanne Nicolas
It appears the couple had another child is also shown on Family Search at that same location and all before the edict of 1685 was revoked. That was all of the records of this family that I could find at that location. Philibert Philippes – brother of Claude Philippe Principal
From Family Search: Incorrect translation shows Saone-et-Loire, Parish and Civil Registrations from 1530-1892 has the original records from the church at Le Fay, Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France, showing the original baptismal certificate of Claude Philippe on 16 April 1678. His father was Claude Philippe and his mother was Jeanne Nicholas. The originals (per Bruno) – “I have verified the documents, the places are in Saône et Loire” (NOT in Nord-Pas-de-Calais). Below is the first Image from the start of the film of this Le Fay – note it is only called FAY et Valle and La Ferville on the church register. NOT - Nord and Pas-de-Calais.
Google shows La Feville to be in
Saône et Loire as Bruno says.
This means they were living in the Le Fay in Saone et Lorie
instead of in Nord Pas-de-Calais.
Thank you Bruno. Notice the church stamp used at the top of the documents: again only written as FAY et Valle and La Ferville on the old docouments. More information to follow. Image 1018 at the start of Le Fay Google said that - Le canton de Beaurepaire est une ancienne division administrative française située dans le département de l'Isère et la région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Not sure what all that says, but I find the correct Le Fay just above the region called Rhone-Alps – so I believe this is pointing us to the correct location. At the time (1678) there were no census records in France – everything was based on the church records I cannot find a listing at this location in Family Search for Claude Phillip (the elder) before he married Jeanne Nicalle in 1665. I do believe he must have come from another region close to Saône et Loire. I also believe I have found Jeanne’s parents – from this same region – this Jeanne Nicalle could be Rev. Claude Phillippe’s Mother since that is where his parents married in 1665. Born in 1644 would be a logical age (21) for a 1665 marriage.
Jeanne may have been their only child born there. She is the only child I could find for those parents Google said that - Le canton de Beaurepaire est une ancienne division administrative française située dans le département de l'Isère et la région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Not sure what all that says, but I find the correct Le Fay just above the region called Rhone-Alps – so I believe this is pointing us to the correct location. Google information - note the proximity
from Le Fay to Switzerland where the Chastains fled after the Edict
of 1685 was reversed.
The information said -
Le Fay is a
commune in the
Saône-et-Loire
department
in the region of
Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern
France.
https://geotargit.com/called.php?qcity=Richebourg
There are 6 places in the world named Richebourg! (Per
Google)
Richebourg can be found in only 1 country – per Google. The northern most place is in the region Nord-Pas-de-Calais in
France. The southern most place is in the region
Bourgogne in France.
Bourgonne is the region where Le Fay is
located.
I was unable to find a map of the
commune of Richebourg – it may no longer exist, but I did find a map
showing all the locations of the places named Richebourge.
And below are the locations by name of all 6 Richebourgs. The map shows all the regions of France. Another map below shows the location of Saone-et-Lorie within the region of Bourgogne. Family tradition tells us that my French line came from Berry. I find Berry in the Centre region of France next to the region Borgogne. It appears that Claude Philippe Sr. that married Jeanne Nicalle originally came from there. I do not find any other documentation on him in those original records. See information on Berry.
It is my understanding that the Chastains lived in Charost, which is also in the Centre region of France. According to Pierre Chastains and His Descendants “The Chastains fled across the Jura Mountains, to Yverson, Canton of Vaud, Switzerland” and later Pierre Chastain took “his family from Switzerland…northward to Holland.” Also I found information that shows that Pierre Chastain had children born in Vevey, Switzerland and a child born in Leiden, Holland before they went to England to board the ship to America. It is possible that Claude Philippe followed the Chastain Family to Switzerland and/or the Netherlands before they went to England to board the ship to America. When and why Claude Philippe added de Richebourg to his name, I do not know. He may have lived in the Richhebourg commune in the Saone-et-Lorie region and when Philippe Claude arrived on the 2nd ship, Claude Philippe may have felt it necessary to add a location to distinguish between the two of them. We may never know, but the fact the “de Richebourg” was not on the official records until after he arrived in America is evident on many documents.
